Is Makena’s Big Beach the world’s best?

Every year Dr. Beach comes out with his list of the ten best beaches in the world and every year a few of Hawaii’s fabulous beaches make the list along with gorgeous beaches from islands worldwide. If the list were the same all the time, who would check it? The criteria for selection the ‘best beach’ is pretty subjective but would have to include the quality of the water, the location, the amount of sunshine, access, shade, and safety. With dozens of great beaches in Hawaii to choose from, thousands of people return every year to Oneloa beach, popularly know as Big Beach, claiming is their favorite in the world and that it is one of the main reasons they come back to Maui. If you haven’t had the pleasure of being there, put in on your bucket list. After years of exploring wonderful beaches and visiting all of Hawaii’s finest, this is still my favorite. There is a magic there that is truly special.
