Introduction to Haiku
It took a while for people to rediscover Haiku. In the old days, it was pineapple country with company camps, canneries and a very slow pulse. After the Kahului lands opened up, Haiku languished until it was "rediscovered" twenty years ago. Haiku was once only known simply as "that place that always rains". Now that the rainfall patterns have moderated, Haiku is the new heaven for farmers, windsurfers, dancers, yogis and health seekers who come for the air and stay for the community. If you’re interested in permaculture and sustainable living, your future may be here where the valleys have good soil and wind protection.
The Haiku cannery area functions as the town of Haiku, this where you'll find the Haiku post office, grocery stores, restaurants and a great fitness center.
Where is Haiku located?
Haiku is within the North Shore region and the Haiku cannery area is only 15 minutes away from Paia Town. To get to Haiku from Kahului you can use the Hana Highway, if you're already upcountry you can get to Haiku through Makawao Avenue which connects to one of the main Haiku streets: Kaupakalua Road.
